Embedding a Photo

All image posts on dgrin need to start with . So an image posting would look like this:

There are a few ways of retrieving the URL of your image. Here are two methods of doing this in SmugMug.

One is to click the "share" button above your Image. If you don't see it, make sure you have 'Easy Sharing' set to 'Yes' in your gallery settings.

Now select 'get a link'.

It should bring you directly to the 'Get a link' page.

Make sure that you have the 'Embeddable Links' tab selected, as shown here.

You'll see two different kinds of embed codes here, both providing a variety of different image sizes for you to select.

Make sure that you look at the bottom set where it says 'Forums.' To copy the link, simply click on the 'Copy' button on the line that you want and the code is copied automagically to your clipboard.

Another way of getting the URL of your image is to right-click so that you get this pull-down menu. Select "Copy Image Location" and you're done.

NOTE: Right-clicking won't work if you've disabled it in your gallery settings.

Putting it together in Dgrin
Now to Dgrin. When you are composing a message, there is a row of icons above the text entry field. One of them looks like a postcard. Click on that button.

NOTE: If you used the 'Get a Link' feature, you should skip this step and simply paste the code you've copied into the body of the message.

When you click on that icon you will be asked to enter in the URL of your image. Since you copied it earlier, all you have to do now is paste it.

NOTE: If you right-clicked on an image you may have copied a different size than what you want. Like if you clicked on the thumbnail, but you want to post it large. Just make sure that the size code just before the .jpg is the right one for the size you want:

X3Large = X3
X2Large = X2
XLarge = XL
Large = L
Medium = M
Small = S

Click OK.

Your message window should now look like this.

Success! All you need to do now is finish composing and posting your message and the image will be right there.

Note that you can put as many of these image links in a message as you want...just be careful not to overload your viewer!

Also, you don't need to use the button. You could type out after. Works exactly the same. The button's just there for convenience.

If your image doesn't show up in your post, most likely you've got your gallery settings set to prevent external linking.

Go to the gallery that your image is in, and choose "Customize Gallery," then scroll down until you see "External Links" and make sure that is set to "Yes."

Linking EXIF Data

To add the EXIF information, you've got to head back to SmugMug.

When you mouse over your image, you'll see a button for "Photo Info."

Click on that.

NOTE: make sure that you have "Camera Info" enabled in your custom gallery settings!
